Erin Jewell is a long time resident of the Hampton Roads area.  She first became associated with Patten, Wornom, Hatten & Diamonstein in 2004, when she joined the firm as a law clerk in her third-year of law school.  Ms. Jewell (formerly Hieronimus) was admitted to the Virginia State Bar and joined the firm as an associate attorney in 2005.  Since that time, she has focused her practice on representing asbestos victims, both in asbestos litigation and in workers’ compensation.

Ms. Jewell was recognized by Virginia Super Lawyers magazine as a “Virginia Rising Star” (top 2.5% of Virginia Attorneys 40 years or younger or in practice 10 years or less).

THE VIRGINIA STATE BAR RULES OF PROFESSIONAL CONDUCT REQUIRE ALL ATTORNEYS TO MAKE THE FOLLOWING STATEMENT AND DISCLAIMER TO THEIR CASE RESULTS. SETTLEMENT AND VERDICT IN ALL CASES DEPEND ON VARIOUS FACTORS AND CIRCUMSTANCES, WHICH ARE UNIQUE TO EACH CASE. THEREFORE, PAST RESULTS IN CASES ARE NOT A GUARANTEE OR PREDICTION OF SIMILAR RESULTS IN FUTURE CASES WHICH PATTEN, WORNOM, HATTEN & DIAMONSTEIN AND ITS LAWYERS MAY UNDERTAKE.

Ms. Jewell primarily works on the asbestos trial team in preparing and trying cases to verdict.  Hugh McCormick, III, Esq. and Ms. Jewell successfully prosecuted King v. John Crane, a mesothelioma jury trial in November 2008, resulting in verdict of $1.7 million dollars, and which was listed as one of “Virginia’s Largest Verdicts of 2008” by Virginia Lawyer’s Weekly.

Ms. Jewell has also recovered workers’ compensation benefits for asbestos victims and other injured persons before the Department of Labor and the Virginia Workers’ Compensation Commission, under the Longshore and Harbor Workers’ Compensation Act and the Virginia Workers’ Compensation Act.

Ms. Jewell is admitted to practice in Virginia, the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia, and the United States Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit. She is a member of the American Association for Justice, the Virginia Trial Lawyer’s Association (VTLA), the VTLA’s Young Trial Lawyer’s Committee, the Greater Peninsula Women’s Bar Association and the Newport News Bar Association.  She currently serves as the Secretary of the VTLA’s Young Trial Lawyer’s Committee, and has served as a local co-chair of the Virginia Bar Association’s Legal Food Frenzy, to support the Virginia Peninsula Foodbank.

Ms. Jewell received her Bachelor of Arts from Old Dominion University in 2001. She received her Juris Doctor from Regent University School of Law in 2005, where she was a member of the Moot Court Board and was awarded Second Best Oralist at the John J. Gibbons Moot Court Competition.
