Alan Diamonstein has a distinguished record in legal and legislative issues. He specializes in project finance, economic development law and real estate ventures. As a member of the Virginia House of Delegates for more than 30 years, he served as the chairman of key legislative committees, and was a budget conferee on the Appropriations Committee. He was also recognized for his support of Virginia’s college and university system. His understanding of the legislative process and ability to develop effective working relationships with elected officials and public professionals at all levels is reflected in a record of successful initiatives, especially in housing and community development. He was Chairman of the Virginia Housing Study Commission for more than 20 years, and President Clinton appointed him to the Board of the National Housing Partnership.

A native and resident of Newport News, Virginia, he attended the University of Virginia, and, after completing a tour with the U.S. Air Force, received his B.S. degree in commerce. He earned his law degree at the University of Virginia Law School. He received an Honorary Doctor of Laws degree from Christopher Newport University and an Honorary Doctor of Laws degree from the College of William and Mary. He is married to Beverly Hicks Diamonstein and they have four children and five grandchildren.

In addition to being a senior partner at Patten Wornom Hatten & Diamonstein, he heads PWHD Consulting, an affiliate group with the law firm. The consulting group specializes in public policy advocacy, media relations and legislative services. Clients include residential and commercial real estate development firms, local governments, non-profit institutions, as well as sports and hospitality businesses, among others.

He has always been active in local, state and national civic, arts and professional organizations, including his current chairmanship of the internationally-recognized Mariners’ Museum in Newport News. Other past and present affiliations include: Member & Treasurer, Board of Trustees, Sarah Bonwell Hudgins Foundation, an advocacy organization for mental health and disabilities issues; Member, Washington Airports Task Force Member; Member, Board of the Pamela Harriman Foreign Service Fellowship; Life Member Virginia Jaycees; and Distinguished Service Award from the National Hemophilia Foundation.
