Donald N. Patten is a native of Newport News, Virginia. He was educated at the University of Richmond where he received a B.A. degree in 1964 and at the University of Virginia where he received a law degree in 1967. In 1968, he joined the law firm of Patten & Wornom (predecessor of Patten, Wornom, Hatten & Diamonstein, L.C.)


For more than fifty years, Mr. Patten has represented individuals and businesses in product liability and negligence actions, commercial contract disputes and real estate business matters. For many years the primary focus of his practice has been asbestos product liability litigation. He has represented thousands of injured asbestos plaintiffs in lawsuits filed in a number of states including Virginia, Ohio, Texas and Mississippi. He has argued pretrial motions and complex legal issues in numerous state and federal courts and has deposed hundreds of expert and/or factual witnesses, including medical experts, economists, industrial hygienists, State-of-the-Art witnesses, corporate executives and shipyard workers. He has participated in the trial and/or settlement of thousands of asbestos cases. For over a decade Mr. Patten has represented claimants in asbestos related, bankruptcy proceedings filed in many  jurisdictions including  Virginia, North Carolina, New York, Pennsylvania, Florida and Illinois among others.
